Mass Exodus Likely In Manchester United This Summer

Despite the poor performance and the clamour in some quarters for a new manager, David Moyes is already planning ahead for next season according to many reports. His under-performing squad is in dire need of an urgent overhaul. And the truth is some of United’s legend may not be at Old Trafford next season.

Who are those that are likely to stay? Who are those that are likely to go? Let’s take a closer look at the various departments of this present team to find out:

Defense

Team captain Nemanja Vidic has already announced his departure at the end of this season and Patrice Evra looks set to follow in his steps. With Rio Ferdinand’s form depreciating badly, he may not be in the team next season. This trio had been a very compact defensive unit for United. It would be very difficult for Moyes to get suitable replacements for these three given their wealth of experience, their footballing skills, as well their leadership skills both on and off the field of play.

Central midfield

The addition of Mourane Fellaini from Everton did little quality to this department. While Carrick may not have had his best season with United presently, he is the best the Red Devils have got at the moment and may likely remain in the club next season. Same cannot be said for Darren Fletcher and Tom Cleverly. Cleverly has been criticised severally for his poor form which sometimes has cost the team some painful losses. He is one player whose position in the team for next season is doubtful.

United’s legend Ryan Giggs looks certain to retire from football. At forty, the Welshman has made a few appearances this season. This most decorated British player may return to United this time as part of the coaching staff.

Attacking midfield/wingers

This appears to a better part of the squad in terms of options. Adnan Januzaj has had an impressive season in what has been a very bleak outing for United. The signing of Juan Mata from Chelsea too has served to strengthen the team.  Japanese international is another good player in this position but has either been underutilized or played out of position. He should be given more playing time and used in his natural position. Sadly, he may be one of the players United would be willing to let go of next season.

Wingers have been the main stay of Man United from time immemorial. But for two consecutive seasons the trio of Nani, Valencia and Ashely Young have grossly underperformed. Young should be asked to leave the team. As for the other two, only one of them may remain in the squad next season.

Strikers

There seems to be too many options for this position. Rooney and Van Persie are the club’s best two strikers but they are yet to form a good scoring pair. With the rumoured friction between Moyes and the Dutch man, would he let go of Van Persie?

Danny Welbeck and Chicharito are also in this position. Both have been used as substitutes so far. While Welbeck can play in the wings, the Mexican is only good in front of goal. Chicharito has been a super-sub in some games and his goals really made a lot of difference.
