Manchester United manager, David Moyes has stated that the Old Trafford giants will look to conduct their transfer business in the summer early, before the World Cup gets underway in Brazil.
After a disastrous outing in the summer last year in which saw long-term target Thiago Alcantara poked right from under their nose by Bayern Munich and Pep Guardiola, the former Everton boss was made to settle for underperforming Fellaini while Mata has eased a disastrous season since joining in the winter. However, with the 20-time EPL champions set to miss out on Champions league football next season, the manager and the club’s board are ready to do business early.
"I’ve got to say I’m well into my planning with my thoughts and ideas getting ready for next year,” the 50-year-old former Preston North End manager started. “It will probably be after the end of the season before anything takes place, but we have got to look to do one or two things.
“It’s difficult as players are going to be going away for the World Cup so it’s maybe not quite as easy as ideally all clubs would like to get the work done early. We cannot guarantee it, but will try to make that happen,” Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor said.
Moyes was seen at last weekend’s game between Benfica and FC Porto in Portugal, sparking rumours of a couple of Portuguese deals in the pipeline, rumours which the manager laughed at.
“We’re linked with player after player and every time I go to a game, I’m supposed to be signing three or four players from that game.
“That isn’t the case, but everyone is well aware we are looking to make signings and will try to do that whenever the opportunity arises,” he responded.
Jackson Martinez, Edison Cavani, Luke Shaw, Toni Kroos, Ikay Gundogan, Marco Reus, Ezequiel Garay, Ross Barkley et al. have been linked with a move to Manchester and it will be interesting to see which deals the former Everton manager would pull off.
