Done Deal - Manchester United Agree £85,000-a-week For High Rated Chelsea Target - Reports

Manchester United’s efforts at revamping their under-performing squad may have received a significant boost if reports from The Mirror are anything to go by. According to the Mirror, United have agreed on a £27m deal with Southampton for Luke Shaw beating their west London rivals Chelsea in the process.

Shaw’s very impressive form at St Mary’s stadium has made him one of the most highly sought after full-back in Europe. Several clubs had indicated their interest in the 18 year old including United and Chelsea.

Shaw grew up in west London and Chelsea was his boyhood dream club. Many bookies felt Shaw would snub other clubs and sign for his boyhood club Chelsea. And to Jose Mourinho, Shaw was a long term replacement for Ashley Cole. If this report is true, then Chelsea had just lost a very prime transfer target. What is Chelsea’s loss, however is United’s gain.

Still smarting from a 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace over the weekend, the Chelsea coach believed they were in pole position to sign the defender. The Southampton young talent may have ran out of patience with Chelsea and is reported to have agreed a £85,000-a-week deal that would see him at Old Trafford next season.week

If this report is true, then fans of United may have something to look forward to in next season’s campaign. Shaw has proved to be one of Europe’s best full-backs and would be a very good replacement for Patrice Evra that would be leaving the club as his contract with United will expire at the end of this season.

With newspaper making so much speculations during transfer windows like this, it remains to be seen how true this report is. Personally, I fervently hope this is true as I would like to see Luke Shaw in the colours of Manchester United come next season.
