Manchester United Moves A Step Closer To Signing Toni Kroos As Transfer Talks Opens - Reports

Manchester United has initiated talks over the possible signing of Bayern Munich’s midfielder Toni Kroos after their Champions League defeat to the Bavarian club last Wednesday The Express has revealed.

Kroos who has been constantly linked to a move to Manchester United played a key role in Bayern Munich's win against Manchester United at the Allianz Arena this week. Reports has it that officials from Manchester United led by Executive Vice Chairman Ed Woodward stayed back to open talks with the player’s agent about a possible £40 million given the standoff between him and his club.

The German champions has already said they are not going to sell the talented midfielder but with his contract ending in 2015, United are confident that £40 million would be good enough to bring Kroos to Old Trafford next season.

While Moyes has received some green light from Volker Struth, the playrer’s agent, there are reports that Kroos may just be using United’s interest to negotiate a better deal with his club.

Struth said that "We are confronted with a variety of rumours for months but at the moment I believe that Toni plays in Bavaria until 2015 at least," said Struth.

Manchester Evening express quoted Pep Guardiola as saying that Kroos "will remain" with his squad throughout 2015. After the first leg of their UEFA Champions League encounter, the player himself told TZ via ESPN , "I belong to Bayern Munich".

Even at that, United are not giving up on the versatile midfielder just yet. Moyes said tacitly that he was well on his way to getting his first set of summer signings in spite of the obvious lack of UEFA champions league football a for United next season, Mirror’s David McDonnel reports.

According to the Mirror, Moyes had said ;

"The ones [potential signings] who, quietly, someone might have had a word in their ear, have all been keen to come because they know it is a short thing, not a long thing and are all very keen to join such a great club," said Moyes.

Personally, I think we should not give up on the chance to signing the high rated German. As much as he is yet to put pen to paper on a new contract with Bayern Munich, we stand a very good chance. The same thing happened with Van Persie at Arsenal. Arsenal never wanted to sell but if the player wants to move, he will most likely get his wish in the end.
