Big Shu Cleared For Grand National 2014

For 2013 Cheltenham Cross country chase winner big Shu, it is all good news as he has been clear to partake in this grand national 2014 event. Big shu who finished third in his attempt to win the cross country for a second year running will be ridden by experienced Jockey Peter Buchanana.

At Cheltenham last year, Paul Carberry was the jockey. He rode the horse with his well known patience then launching his bid as usual late in the race. However, the going was probably too faster for the horse and his jockey and they could not really catch old rival Balthazar King and the forerunner Any Currency. It was however, a fine race for the 9 year old horse.

Carberry has also been confirmed the rider of Monbeg Dude, this has made veteran horse trainer Peter Maher to move quickly to secure the services of Buchanan. Currently available at 25-1 by paddy power, Monbeg Dude and Carberry will reunited next week as Carberry is bid to travel down to Ireland next week to partner with the horse.

As Big Shu is a horse that is well known for his preference for soft ground, Peter Maher will be hoping the rain will pour in it abundance next week. When the Son of Milan coasted home the Cheltenham at least year's festival, the going was good to soft. However, his other wins have been on very soft or heavy grounds which is likely to be described as good to soft at the ground national course.

After winning the cross country, Big Shu reportedly went to Punchestown and defied 12st 3lb in the La Touche cup. Although he had hit the front a long way out that day, he still managed to dig deep into his reserves to fight off the challenges of Another Jewel and Bostons Angel who were pre course favorites.

Silver Birch ended up as second best in the Cross country chase in 2007 and then went on to win the Grand National in grand style. Big Shu ran at Punchestown in February and endured enough to finish second behind hot favorite Love Rory. With 2 good runs already under his belt this season, he will be putters' favorite for the grand national next week.
