Bayern Munich’s Coach Pep Guardiola is not taking any chances as he prepares his team for this week’s crucial second leg UEFA quarter final match against visiting Manchester United. He is very sure that United’s midfielder Wayne Rooney would be fit enough to play against his team on Wednesday.
When asked in a pre-match conference Pep Guardiola had this to say "Rooney is going to play, 100 per cent.
"He is going to play, I bet you a big big glass of beer."
Rooney suffered a bruised toe in the first leg of this encounter. He also missed out on his side’s 4 – 0 win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park. To worsen matter, the injury wasn’t responding to treatment. United’s medical staff are sweating to get the player back to full fitness ahead of their crunchy game against the German club.
United’s preparation for the second leg match received a big boost as Wayne Rooney trained with the team on Tuesday fuelling hopes that he may be starting against Bayern Munich this Wednesday. Another injured player Ryan Giggs also took part in the training although MouraneFellaini missed out of the training.
Rooney is a very important player for the Manchester United side. He holds the club’s record for the most goals as well as the highest assists for this season. He has scored 15 goals and assisted 10. The player is hoping to help his side progress through to the semi-finals as they take on the Bundesliga champions.
Bayern Munich defender David Alaba had said that Bayern was not focusing on United’s tactics. But obviously his coach is not leaving anything to chance. Certainly not with a player of the status and profile of Wayne Rooney.
