Bayern Munich Having A Crisis Ahead Of Their Second Leg Clash With Manchester United?

German champions and current UEFA Champions League trophy holders have not won any of their last three matches. They had drawn two of those matches- 3 -3 against Hoffenheim and 1 -1 with Manchester United and lost 1 – 0 against Augsburg.

The loss against Augsburg ended their very impressive unbeaten run in 53 Bundesliga matches. In football, like any other sport, you don’t win all the time. But the last time Bayern Munich failed to win a match in three consecutive games was about three years ago. Such a thing never happened under former boss Jupp Heynckes.

Of course they have nothing to play for in the game against Augsburg having already won their league title. This was further buttressed by Coach Pep Guardiola’s comments after the match. He said the match against Auguburg was of less significance to him compared to that against Manchester United. “That’s a final. That’s about life or death” Guardiola quipped.

This is not just the position of the coach but one that is shared by some off his players. According to Manchester United’s transfer target Toni Kroos, “nothing has happened”. Bayern Munich’s safe hands Manuel Neur too had this to say “The most important thing is that nobody got injured. We only care about Wednesday – everything else doesn’t matter.”

Everyone seems to be focusing on the big game against United. But would it really be easy to up their game against a very determined United side after three consecutive matches without a win? They rested a lot of their regular first team players in the loss against Augsburg but are the players now resting mentally too?

Already Guardiola is facing a lot of criticisms following the loss to Augsburg. Should his players fail to snatch a win at Allianz Arena on Wednesday, then he has a lot of explanations to do. Is Bayern Munich really going through a crisis?
